A puppet update
Because puppets are amazing!
After watching the Jim Henson documentary, and watching more Sesame Street. I was inspired to get my own puppets! It was also conveniently end of financial year time and so I managed to get a little bit of a discount.
My first puppet is from Folkmanis and is a dragon. There puppets are devastatingly beautiful and I have been eyeing them off for over a year. It was very hard to narrow it down to one, but with this dragon I can control his mouth and his wings or arms so it felt like it gave me more flexibility
.
My second puppet is from Silly Puppets and is more of a muppet-style puppet where I can control his mouth and one arm using a rod. I am still trying to find the perfect name for him (I am open to suggestions) but he is a lot of fun. I have read that the best way to start practicing puppeteering is to get the puppet to ‘lip sync’ along to songs, so here is one of my early efforts. I’m also considering using him if I do any book readings/school visits, because who doesn’t love puppets?
A few weeks after my puppets arrived, we were at the local Atherton show and saw an amazing puppeteer busker and so I had to mention him here too. I have seen him before, and his puppet is much more sophisticated than mine, but the puppet is mesmerising to watch. Enjoy!
PS. Seeing as I am providing updates, I realised I forgot to add my favourite piece of Wiggles trivia to my post a couple of weeks ago. In the original song Fruit Salad, there is an extra voice singing (in the video and album). In particular, the words ‘yummy yummy yummy yummy fruit salad’ in the intro and outro. This is sung by none other than Paul Hester (RIP) of Crowded House fame (one of my favourite bands). In the Crowded House video clips he looks like the one acting the most zany, so I am not surprised to learn he turned up in a Wiggles song.
