Just a Drink
A 100-word story about water bottles, choices, and small frustrations

This piece captures the quiet frustration of trying to do the “right” thing in everyday life.
Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink. I’d finished my water bottle and was looking for somewhere to refill it. I try to take my reusable water bottle with me everywhere. It’s cheaper than buying water. And better for the environment than all the plastic bottles. One business wouldn’t fill my bottle for me, another tap said ‘non-potable water’.
I thought about my next stop. I could fill my bottle up when I got off the train. I sighed, why is doing the right thing for the planet hard?
I just wanted a drink.
Prompt: Write a story that ends ‘I just wanted a drink.’
