Pocket of Serenity
Between feeds and fatigue, sometimes time slows down.
This 100-word story is dedicated to all mums sitting up in the middle of the night with their little bundles of joy.

The house was dark except for the red glow of the night light.
Her baby snuggled into her, barely awake, rhythmically sucking as he enjoyed a midnight feed. Her grey cat was purring, curled up at her feet, perfectly blending into the grey carpet, only visible by the faintest outline of his ears.
She could hear the wind outside, but she was warm in her dressing gown, with her bundle of joy nestled against her. A gentle stream of lullabies played from her phone.
Although it was exhausting, some nights time stood still and created this little pocket of serenity.
Prompt: Pick a moment in time and capture it in 100 words.
This is the first post I have published under my rebranded name. I previously wrote under the newsletter Saz’s 5 Stars, and shared the things that bring me joy (my older articles still reflect this). However, I have now transformed into Saz’s Little Fictions where I will be sharing flash fiction stories every Friday, and occasional bonus posts and paid posts on Mondays. To read more about the changes to my newsletter, check them out here.

My newest children’s picture book, Jack’s Train Day, has just been released on Amazon. I am so excited that it has reached #1 bestseller status on amazon.com.au. Please check it out!

This is absolutely lovely, Sarah. I loved this moment in time. Great description; made me feel like I was there, in that moment.
